For the past 17 blogs I have been discussing how to get your home sold fast and for top dollar. But one thing that really stands out to help sell a home is preparing your home for putting it up for sale. I did discuss this lightly in a previous blog but I wanted to go more in depth on how to do so.


The first thing you need to do is break out the mop, cleaners, and paintbrush! Basically give your home a lil makeover and make it look as shiny and clean as possible. Cleaning your home is the most effective way to create a great first impression and remain attractive to potential buyers. Wash the baseboards, walls, trim, doors...EVERYTHING! Now that your home is super clean...you've got to keep it that way.Remember...you don't live there anymore, Martha Stewart does!


To get this mini make over started, sit back and look at your home through the eyes of a buyer. Buyer's will be the first ones to note the little holes in the wall, the crack in the trim, the chipped baseboard or ripped screen. Walk through each of your rooms and doorways as a potential buyer, noting even the smallest detail. Repair as much as you can to make your home more saleable. Fix that leaky roof or unsafe electrical/plumbing issues. Touching up those large and small details can do wonders, and make your asking price that much more reasonable.


Declutter your home. Get rid of those things that just sit there and haven't been used since you purchased them. Clear out the closets, doorways, and entry. Rearrange the furniture to make the room look as big as possible. Decluttering the home will make the rooms and your home feel as though they have expanded! Once done, go the extra step and depersonalize your home. You can keep some family photo's displayed throughout the home but take down the wall of photo's that you keep..it'll help the buyers visualize themselves in the home and it feel more like theirs.


Painting your home can also do wonders. The old wallpaper or bright colours should come down and instead paint a bright neutral colour that would be appeal to the masses and enhance a room's size and warmth. Painting is cost effective and makes a home look updated in no time!


After all the above is said and done, try and add some beautifying touches. A pretty throw pillow or a vase of flowers. Get rid of the old torn curtains and put up some fresh drapery. Landscape the yard and garden and make the home look as picture perfect as possible. This will do wonders for a buyer's first impression and aid in the sale of your home.


These changes can help largely in the sale of you home. Remember...first impressions are everything and if you want to sell you should really consider doin the above.If you can't do them all the most important is to keep you home clean clean clean. You can have an old home but if it's clean and tidy it will show a thousand times better then a messy, dirty home.
